Absolute Bad-Assery

The best game of my life so far.

A week ago I was writing about how much fun it is to improve every time I got out and play disc golf. It always feels good to get better- it’s an instinctual response. If learning how to throw a disc makes me feel good I’m all for it.

Well, this week I played my best game ever! Did I feel good? Heck yes! I was 4 under par through 9 holes. That was early Friday morning and man did I feel great at work!

This is my best scorecard so far.  Those blue circles are a good thing!

I was still feeling great when I woke up on Saturday, so I polished up my discs and went to the park in the early morning. I wanted to meet up with someone to throw a round.

But there wasn’t a soul in the park.

It was really kind of weird. The park is usually full on Saturday morning. The roller derby girls warming up. The handball guys getting started with their games. A few old guy disc golfers going around the course Kids on the playground having fun before it gets too hot. But today there was no one in the park at all. Even the dog walkers were going around the park, instead of through it. It was errily weird.

But really beautiful.

Hole #7, Ferns Park - Woodland, CA

It ended up being a great time for introspection and a fantastic game of disc golf. My game was going well, so my thoughts were positive. My thoughts were positive, so I was playing well. It was 2 hours of feel-good time in my head punctuated by throwing a disc toward a basket.

Then I got to hole #7 on my third round, and there is a total mess on the course.

A pack of small dogs chasing a ball!

They were running around like a school of fish, chasing a little green ball. Running back and forth- they had just gotten to the park and were full of pent up energy.  I waited for them to all move off as a swarm in the right direction and I then threw for a nice birdie (I'm still feelin' it).

I started walking toward the 8th tee, and I stopped. I realized that these dogs were exactly what I was missing all morning. All the action, excitement and exuberance that’s usually in the park was here in one big hyperactive furry pile of tongues.

So I went back to see them.

This is the ball they were chasing.  I took this picture surrounded by 4 heavy-breathing terriers who just wanted me to move so they could get their ball back.

Frito, Gordita, and Cookie.

It was fun to get down on the ground and be surrounded by the dogs running and playing. I chatted with the people for a little bit, they were very nice- just spending a Sunday morning at the park with their dogs.

My game went from solitude to a dog party on the 7th fairway and that was a good thing.

Snack of the Week

Um...Yes.

I was in a hurry to get to the course on Sunday, so I decided to pick up lunch along the way. The closest restaurant to me is Iguanas, so I stopped in for a few tacos. Back at the course I sat under a tree and ate my tacos. It was everything you imagine it would be. It was perfect.

Snack of the week: Tacos - by far.

Disc of the Week

This is my cool new disc. I was trying to be an advanced disc golfer and move up to a ‘faster’ (more difficult) disc, but my arm is too slow and I can’t throw it. It just flies to the left and into the ground. I was playing with a guy who asked me, “Does that just fly left and go into the ground?” Yes. Yes it does. He could tell just by looking at me that I can’t throw this disc.

I didn’t want it to go to waste though…so I attached it to my ceiling fan.

It worked perfectly. I’ve been looking for a good light diffuser out here for months, and this works great! The absolute sheer luck of it fitting perfectly onto the fan meant that there was some sort of mystical force directing this. You can’t ignore the signs….

But is it awesome? It’s absolute bad-assery. Totally cool stamp and it lets the perfect amount of light through. And it gets to live a full life outside of my bag. Win, Win, Win!

And this is a GLOW disc. So after it’s been charging directly under the LEDs, it glows like crazy. So it’s a built-in night light! (That’s another Win!)

So this solved two problems- my inability to throw this disc, and me needing a better light cover on my ceiling fan.

Thank you Ohn Scoggins, it’s a cool disc and it’s my Disc of the Week!
